About Prees Heath Common

Prees Heath Common Reserve is a 60-hectare nature reserve located between the A49 and A41 roads, south of Whitchurch in North Shropshire. Purchased by Butterfly Conservation in 2006, it is the only remaining sanctuary for the Silver-studded Blue butterfly in the Midlands. The reserve supports a wide array of other species, including butterflies, moths, invertebrates, birds, plants, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. It also has a rich history, having been an army training camp in WW1 and a training airfield in WW2. An ongoing heathland re-creation project is underway on areas previously used for arable cultivation.
