World-class museums, heritage railways, zoos and adventure days out across the county.
Rainy day or sunny, Shropshire has one of the best line-ups of days out in the country, with a remarkable amount of it free.
World-class museums
The Royal Air Force Museum Midlands at Cosford is the county's most visited attraction and entry is free, with vast hangars of historic and Cold War aircraft. Over in the Ironbridge Gorge, Blists Hill Victorian Town lets you spend (old) money in a recreated Victorian high street, while the Coalport China and Jackfield Tile museums tell the story of the place where the Industrial Revolution began.
Family favourites
Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World and the Exotic Zoo keep younger visitors thrilled, BeWILDerwood (just over the Cheshire border near Whitchurch) is a magical outdoor adventure park, and Park Hall: The Countryside Experience near Oswestry is a brilliant farm day out.
Heritage railways
Ride the steam-hauled Severn Valley Railway from Bridgnorth, or the volunteer-run Telford Steam Railway at Horsehay.
A bit different
Tour the cells at the genuinely atmospheric Shrewsbury Prison, wander the open-air Shropshire Sculpture Park near Oswestry, scramble the cliffs and grottoes of Hawkstone Park Follies, or hit the trails at Revolution Bike Park.
Free and green
Telford Town Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country, with playgrounds, a lake and Wonderland for little ones. Most of the county's parks and nature reserves are free to roam.
