How to spend a perfect weekend in Shropshire, from Shrewsbury and the Ironbridge Gorge to the hills and Ludlow.
Got a weekend? Here's how to see the best of Shropshire in two days.
Day one: Shrewsbury and the gorge
Start in Shrewsbury — wander the medieval shuts, the riverside Quarry park and the Dingle, then have lunch at one of the town's brilliant independents (Umai Sushi, CSONS). In the afternoon, head to the Ironbridge Gorge to see the world's first iron bridge and step back in time at Blists Hill Victorian Town. Stay over in Shrewsbury or Ironbridge (see our where to stay guide).
Day two: hills and history
Drive south into the Shropshire Hills. Walk up Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd from Church Stretton for the county's best views, then continue to Ludlow for its mighty castle, Georgian streets and superb food. On the way back, the free RAF Museum Midlands at Cosford or the parkland at Attingham Park make a perfect final stop.
