The best dog-friendly walks, pubs and days out in Shropshire — where to take the dog across the county.
Shropshire is a brilliant county for dogs: miles of open hills, riverside paths and a warm welcome in many of its country pubs. Here is where to take yours.
Dog-friendly walks
Almost all of the county's best walks are perfect for dogs (keep them on a lead near livestock and ground-nesting birds):
- Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd near Church Stretton — open hills and a stream to splash in (National Trust; dogs welcome).
- The Wrekin — a classic woodland climb above Telford.
- Stiperstones and Wenlock Edge — wild ridge and shady woodland walking.
- The Quarry and the River Severn in Shrewsbury — easy, flat and central.
- The Mere at Ellesmere — gentle, watery and scenic.
- Attingham Park estate near Shrewsbury — acres of dog-friendly parkland (on-lead in deer areas).

Dog-friendly days out
Telford Town Park and Cae Glas Park in Oswestry are free and welcome dogs, the open-air Shropshire Sculpture Park is a great wander, and the cliffs and follies of Hawkstone Park make an adventurous outing.
Dog-friendly pubs
Many of Shropshire's country pubs are happy to welcome well-behaved dogs in their bar areas and gardens — among the locals' favourites are The Mill at Leighton, the Bottle and Glass Inn at Picklescott, The Cross Keys at Kinnerley, the Wheatsheaf Inn near Newport and the historic All Nations Inn at Coalport. Policies vary, so it is always worth a quick call ahead. More in our best country pubs guide.
Bring
Water, a towel for muddy paws, and a lead for stretches near sheep — Shropshire is hill-farming country.
