A town of two halves linked by England’s oldest inland funicular, with a steam railway and riverside walks. The best of Bridgnorth.
Bridgnorth climbs a sandstone cliff above the River Severn, split into a historic High Town and riverside Low Town.
The Cliff Railway
Ride the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway, England's oldest and steepest inland funicular, linking High and Low Town since 1892.
The Severn Valley Railway
Bridgnorth is the northern terminus of the wonderful Severn Valley Railway, a 16-mile steam line down to Kidderminster through beautiful countryside. A must for families.
High Town
Wander the High Street, the half-timbered Town Hall, the ruined castle leaning at an angle steeper than the Tower of Pisa, and the lovely Castle Gardens with their riverside views.
Riverside and beyond
Walk the Severn, or visit the working watermill at Daniels Mill just outside town.
